Repression 2.0 describes the new and adapted methods used to silence writers, journalists and dissidents in a connected world.

These tactics combine older forms of censorship and intimidation with digital surveillance, device searches, online smear campaigns, family pressure, proxy harassment and transnational threats.

This section will explain the methods used against writers, journalists and others who use books, websites, podcasts, video, social media and other media formats to reach audiences across borders.

The methods are often digitally enhanced, but the harm is not only digital. It can reach families, publishers, venues, workplaces, cultural institutions and diaspora communities.
